Philip Morris South Africa Expands ZYN Range
New Flavours and Strengths for South African Market
Philip Morris South Africa (PMSA) has officially launched a new range of ZYN nicotine pouch variants, introducing fresh flavours including Apple Mint, Spearmint, and Citrus. Alongside these flavour additions, PMSA has unveiled two new nicotine strength options: the “X-Low” 1.5 mg and a stronger 11 mg variant.
The 1.5 mg “X-Low” pouch caters to adult tobacco or nicotine users exploring nicotine pouches for the first time or those who prefer a lighter experience. The 11 mg option is designed for experienced pouch users seeking a stronger nicotine hit.
Immersive Launch Events in Cape Town and Johannesburg
The launch was celebrated with interactive events in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, where adult nicotine consumers engaged in flavour tastings and sensory activations. Each new variant was brought to life through curated environments, flavour-inspired descriptors, and interactive displays.

Expanding Choice for Adult Nicotine Users
According to PMSA, the new range is intended to broaden the portfolio in South Africa, offering adult nicotine users more ways to personalise their experience. Jonanthan Kwak, Smoke-Free Products Director at PMSA, highlighted the company’s mission:
“We are giving our consumers more ways to personalise their experience, enjoy ZYN in their own way and completely switch to a better alternative to smoking.”
Harm Reduction and Smoke-Free Future
The expansion of ZYN’s portfolio aligns with global and local shifts toward harm reduction. As South Africa debates new legislation on tobacco and electronic nicotine delivery systems, PMSA emphasises that non-combustible products like ZYN represent science-backed alternatives to traditional smoking.
Kwak added:
“While long-term research continues, non-combustible products like ZYN are a better alternative for adults to continued smoking.”
A Milestone in PMSA’s Strategy
The launch of new ZYN variants represents a significant milestone in PMSA’s strategy to help adult smokers transition away from cigarettes. By offering a wider range of smoke-free alternatives, the company reinforces its vision of a smoke-free future.
“This is more than just a variant launch. It’s a continuation of our vision to bring an end to cigarettes,” Kwak concluded.
