Lekau Sehoana Launches Township Supermarket Chain, EasyPrice Holdings, as New CEO

Lekau Sehoana Launches Township Supermarket – EasyPrice

Entrepreneurial Comeback
South African entrepreneur Lekau Sehoana, widely recognized for founding Drip Footwear, has launched a new business venture after navigating the rise and fall of his iconic sneaker brand. In a recent social media post, Sehoana announced his appointment as CEO of EasyPrice Holdings, a low-income supermarket chain designed for townships and rural areas.

New Chapter Begins in Soweto
The company’s first store has opened in Moroka, Soweto, as part of a broader campaign called “Your Real Friend.” Sehoana stated:

“Bestowed with an honour of being appointed CEO of EasyPrice Holdings. EasyPrice is a low-income Supermarket chain with Liquor and delivery services in the townships and rural areas. The launch of our Moroka Store in Soweto coincides with our campaign ‘Your Real Friend,’ where our promise to the community is being a true and real friend that sells good products and value for money.”

A Vision Rooted in Township Revival
Sehoana has long emphasized his passion for the township economy, previously stating his intent to expand into sectors beyond footwear—including fintech, retail, insurance, and mining. EasyPrice marks a strategic shift into retail, offering not only groceries but also liquor and delivery services tailored to underserved communities.

From Sneaker Stardom to Supermarket Strategy
Lekau’s story gained national attention in 2019 with the launch of Drip Footwear, a homegrown sneaker brand that quickly grew from selling shoes out of a car to running 25 stores across the country. The brand achieved wide acclaim, even making Africa’s Top 100 Most Admired Brands.

However, by October 2024, Drip Footwear had been placed under liquidation following a R20 million debt. Challenges cited included financial mismanagement and overly rapid expansion.

Reinvention & Diversification
Despite setbacks, Sehoana has steadily diversified his business interests:

  • In February 2025, he introduced Drip Sportif, a new sneaker line under a collaborative brand called “Rebirth”
  • In October 2024, he founded Ubuhle Bendalo Investments to support township-based ventures
  • He also launched the Sneaker Outlet, a discount shoe retailer targeting rural and township customers under the Amanzi Group

Commitment to Community
Through EasyPrice, Sehoana returns with a renewed focus—this time anchoring his business in value-based retail and community trust. His approach mirrors lessons learned from the Drip saga: grow sustainably, manage finances, and stay rooted in community needs.

As Sehoana repositions himself within South Africa’s entrepreneurial landscape, all eyes will be on EasyPrice Holdings to see if it becomes another milestone in his ever-evolving journey.
