Uber South Africa Launches #GiveGogoMzansi Campaign

Uber South Africa has unveiled its latest initiative, the #GiveGogoMzansi campaign, during an inspiring screening event at Egrek Cinema in Parkhurst on October 17.

The initiative aims to celebrate the beauty of South Africa’s hidden treasures while honoring the beloved Gogos (grandmothers) who have played a crucial role in their communities.

Hosted by award-winning poet Bothale Boikanyo, the event showcased breathtaking South African landscapes through adventurous journeys taken with notable personalities and their Gogos.

The campaign emphasizes the importance of local tourism and community connection, inviting all South Africans to rediscover their country’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

Cassie Jaganyi, Head of Communications at Uber South Africa, explained the ethos behind the campaign.

“Uber’s mission goes beyond simply offering rides – it’s about connecting people to opportunities and experiences. We want every individual South African, every community, and every visitor to experience the true wonders of this country, just as we’ve done with our Gogos,”

Jaganyi stated.

“By making it easier for people to connect with these incredible places, we’re not just creating memorable journeys; we’re deepening connections to the heart of Mzansi.”

The campaign featured several standout experiences, including:

  • Hot Air Balloon Ride: Social media influencers Lasizwe, Lungile, and their Gogo took to the skies, offering a fresh perspective on Mzansi’s natural beauty from above.
  • Helicopter Adventure: Grace Mondlana and her Gogo soared over the Magalies Mountains, providing unforgettable panoramic views of one of South Africa’s hidden natural wonders.
  • Big 5 Safari Drive: Content creator Vicky Jonas and her Gogo witnessed South Africa’s majestic wildlife up close during a thrilling safari experience.

The premiere event not only celebrated adventure but also highlighted the strength and wisdom of the Gogos involved, leaving attendees inspired to explore Mzansi’s hidden gems with a renewed sense of pride.

Through these heartwarming stories, Uber showcased the wonders of South Africa’s landscapes and the invaluable contributions of its grandmothers.

As part of its commitment to local tourism, Uber’s app currently generates over R1 billion in additional value for the South African tourism industry annually, facilitating millions of tourist journeys.

The #GiveGogoMzansi campaign reinforces Uber’s role in promoting safe and reliable access to South Africa’s remarkable destinations, fostering discovery and exploration for both locals and international visitors.

With this initiative, Uber continues to embrace its mission of connecting people to experiences that enrich their lives while celebrating the diverse tapestry of South African culture.
